Notes:

This massive fire started after a carpenter's glue pot overturned on a construction site. Dry weather and wind caused the fire to spready rapidly to engulf twelve city blocks. Inadequate hydrants and a strictly volunteer fire deparment resulted in the City's inability to contain the fire.

Despite widespread damage, there was only one casualty reported as a result of the fire.

A plaque stands at the point where the fire started. It reads:

UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THE STATE
HISTORIC PRESERVATION ACT OF 1967
THIS PROPERTY POSSESSES PARTICULAR
VALUE IN COMMEMORATING OR ILLUSTRATING
AMERICAN HISTORY
PLACED ON THE STATE REGISTER MAY 31, 1974
BY THE GOVERNER'S ADVISORY COUNCIL
ON HISTORIC PRESERVATION
WASHINGTON STATE PARKS
AND RECREATION COMMISSION

Inspired by the 4 firefighters who list their lives in the above mentioned event. The monument is dedicated to all Seattle firefighters who have died in the line of duty. The memorial consists of four bronze statues engaged in various firefighting activities.
