This memorial was a gift from the Halland & Knight Law Firm who lost a partner in the attack. The partner was also a volunteer firefighter.
The memorial is attached to the fire station, located across from the WTC site. It is a series of bronze plaques spanning the side of the station. A depiction of September 11th sits atop the names of all firefighters who were lost. On the left of the memorial wall is a diamond shaped plaque that reads:

| Notes:
On September 11, 2001, terrorists attacked the United States by hijacking commercial airliners and flying them into some of the Nation's most prominent buildings. New York City's famous "Twin Towers" were both struck by planes and would subsequently collapse as a result of the massive damage they suffered. Several other buildings were destroyed by the falling skyscrapers.
In addition to the Twin Towers, the terrorists also struck the Pentagon in Arlington, VA with the hijacked Flight 77. That crash resulted in the loss of 184 lives.
A fourth airliner was also hijacked and appeared to be heading towards Washington, D.C. Aware of the other attacks, the passengers of Flight 93 heroically retook control of that plane and forced the hijackers to crash into a field in Shanksville, PA. By doing so, they ensured that nobody else on the ground would be hurt.
Memorials to the victims of these attacks can be found throughout the country. Many of them are documented on this site. Plans to rebuild on the site of the World Trade Center include a memorial to the event and victims. The Pentagon has been rebuilt and continues to serve in the same capacity as before the attacks. There is a permanent memorial on the Pentagon grounds. And a memorial to the heroes of Flight 93 stands at the crash site in Shanksville, PA. |
