There is a plaque mounted on the front of the fire station in memory of fallen firefighter Eston L. Harrel. The plaque reads:

In Memory Of

Died of a heart attack while fighting a brush fire
at Asheville Drive and N. Croatan Highway

This is a granite monument standing in front of the station near the ocean. There is a large maltese cross etched into the monument just under the name of the town. Below, it reads:

RESCUE PERSONNEL WHO HAVE AND CONTINUE
